(No matter what time of year you write
it's important that HE Brings Balance)
He Brings Balance
By LoRee Peery
July’s heat and a family member in crisis had stolen energy
from my body and spirit. For a week, I struggled with what to write. The new
story wasn’t progressing the way I wanted, so I’d set aside my WIP (work in progress) knowing I
needed to return with a fresh perspective.
Rewriting another project, head work instead of heart work,
proved easier. I passed it on to a beta reader for her opinion, and set that
aside too.
I’d just finished an in-depth Bible study and had only read
a few sporadic verses during the week. A nudging voice kept reminding me to get
back in the Word on a deeper level.
Sunday morning my dear hubby was helping our youngest
son-in-law. I messed around outside spending time amidst nature and planned for
some alone time in my Bible once I finished. I worked up a sweat and went in
for a shower.
I tamed my hair in place. Then I glanced at the clock and
saw I had time to make church after all. So anticipating a good time of
fellowship, I applied mascara. Quick as a brushstroke, the opening scene of my
next project came to mind. (I hadn’t even been consciously thinking about my
characters.)
Happy Dancing in the bathroom followed.
In the blink of black lashes, a truth dawned. By deciding to
honor Him, doing what was right by attending fellowship with other believers,
my thoughts and my focus curled back to where they needed to be. I smiled and
thanked the Lord while I finished getting ready.
Jesus comes first.
I know no greater cure for anxiety than worshipful music,
singing while soaking in His presence. And taking part in the Lord’s Supper
assured me I had made the best decision by following my heart and attending
service by myself.
It may sound like a Christian cliché, but God really does
meet me wherever I am and points me in the direction He is leading. I am
nothing without Him. I can surely do nothing for His glory if my life is out of
balance.
Matthew 6:33 tells us to seek His kingdom and His righteousness first…the days I remember to do that before my feet hit the floor are always better days.
